Building Futures: The Revitalization of the Joseph D. Lapenta Northwest Boys & Girls Club

January 5, 2025

Hartford’s youth now have a brighter future, thanks to the transformation of the Joseph D. Lapenta Northwest Boys & Girls Club. After months of meticulous renovations led by 7 Summits Construction, the community celebrated the grand reopening of this essential facility. As construction managers for the project, we are proud to have played a pivotal role in revitalizing a space that will serve as a cornerstone for children and families in the Northwest neighborhood.

Located at 1 Nahum Drive in Hartford, the Joseph D. Lapenta Northwest Boys & Girls Club has been a vital resource for decades, providing a safe and nurturing environment for local youth. With this renovation, the facility now features cutting-edge STEAM classrooms, a dedicated music room, a refreshed teen space, and a sunlit entrance designed to welcome and inspire. The project, fueled by a $4.4 million state grant and a generous $1.1 million donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, ensures that the Boys & Girls Club continues to meet the evolving needs of the community.

The rededication ceremony on November 12, 2024, was a moment of celebration and gratitude. U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, and other distinguished guests joined members of the Lapenta family and community leaders to honor this milestone. “This renovated and improved clubhouse will ensure Hartford youth have access to the programs and resources they deserve,” said Senator Blumenthal. “It’s an investment in their future and our community’s success.”

Lieutenant Governor Bysiewicz echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the long-term impact of the project. “This facility will create opportunities for generations to come,” she said.

Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam also praised the initiative, stating, “The revitalized Northwest Boys & Girls Club is a beacon of hope and opportunity for our youth. It represents the kind of investment we need to ensure that every child in Hartford can thrive.”

Connecticut House Speaker Matt Ritter highlighted the community’s dedication, noting, “This project is a testament to what we can accomplish when we come together with a shared purpose of uplifting our youth.”

The revitalized clubhouse is poised to make a profound difference, offering Hartford’s youth access to academic support, career readiness programs, daily meals, and enriching activities year-round. “This renovated space will provide Hartford’s youth with the resources and opportunities they need to dream big and achieve their full potential,” Mayor Arulampalam remarked.
